¡Hola!

Hello!
Today's proposal is a basic exercise to re-breathe life into a garment that was dying ...

Me he convertido en: La  Victoria Frankenstein Textil.

It is more than possible that in your wardrobe you keep that garment that for multiple reasons was basic in your clothes but that time and use have made a dent in it, and you no longer wear it but you do not take the step to get rid of it. I understand you perfectly. It happens a lot to me and since I entered the wonderful world of sewing I was wide open the possibility of expanding a little more life and the company of these garments. I have become: The Victoria Frankenstein Textile.
Today's example is very basic and is the typical ideal project for those who start.
My garment is a green linen dress that was my faithful companion every summer. But this year when I rescued it from the closet it had a rather disastrous appearance in the upper part of the wear. But I did not want to give it up, especially the fabric that is ideal for high temperatures. As the part of the skirt was perfectly, I cut it off at the level of the worn parts that were more or less located in the middle of the chest.

I prepared with the leftover chips a bias to finish off that cut. As I did not have any fabric available to make some suspenders, I searched through my box of scraps and found some pieces of fabric a pajama pants that had shortened a few months ago (checkered fabric) when placing the fabrics together I really liked the contrast that generated the linen with the cotton and the ranges of color complemented perfectly and I saw it clearly. Once the suspenders were made, I dedicated myself to testing where I liked the most and where they would be most practical. As you can see, I decided to put them very close to the base of the neck and I also centered them on the back. This placement is very pleasant for me and it solves one of my usual problems with the straps, which is the one that is always slipping. 😉 The theme of the braces itself, is a bit like the pockets of the previous project of the blue skirt, are very simple details but allow us to play with many options for design both in fabrics and in the layout etc.

Once placed, we have our Linen Top with suspenders ready. I did not adjust it to the body because I hate tight clothes in general but even more in Summer. I also did not tweak the length that you can do to create a shorter Top and with the excess fabric you can make some pockets or suspenders. I have preferred to continue enjoying my linen cloth intact at least one more summer.

This type of Upcycling or Redesign exercises are very easy to carry out, they activate our creativity exponentially because as we analyze the original garment we are emerging new possibilities to give a new form, that added to the joy and enthusiasm to know that you will put back into circulation that garment that was for you and is so special.
As always I hope that my little experience will suggest a lot of beautiful things and that you carry it out with all the possible illusion, sure that something positive will come out of it all.
Thank you very much for your time.

A big hug.
