Miss Hepburn.

¡Hola!

Hello Folks!
How is this hot last Monday of August going?
I hope you do not find it too hard or that you are in a cozy and cool place. Today I would like to present a very special piece of handmade clothing: the Saku shirt, as you can see its design is loose which is very comfortable and advisable with this heat. It is a unique piece, made by hand and with a fun and informal touch.
And taking advantage of the fact that we talked about shirts, I would like to relate them to a great ambassador of that great garment: Katharine Hepburn.

This summer I had the opportunity to read his biography written by Charlotte Chandler in which are described delirious moments in the relation of the actress - clothes. In addition to other anecdotes but in this post I will focus on the "rags".

The style of the actress has gone down in history and it is quite usual for each season to review in some way any detail of it.

As I told you when I was preparing the film Dreams of Youth (1935) he offered to go to buy the costumes of his character Alice Adams, who also would stay at the end of the shoot so it moved an undeniable double motivation. They did not give her a big budget and she managed to achieve her goal except for an extravagant expense. She was infatuated with a prom dress that she thought fit perfectly with Alice or with Katharine, so she bought it knowing that when the director and the producers would see it with him, they would see it as evident as her.

He was wrong, they did not tell him anything about the price, but they told him that the dress was too elegant and that Alice not only could not have allowed it but that she would not have developed the taste to choose it, so they forced her to return the dress. But she, stubborn as few, wanted to keep the dress so neither short nor lazy bought a lot of ribbons and made ties that put all over the dress, transforming it into a "perfect bad taste", they approved and never realized that It was the same dress.

I could not help but feel a little envious of how fascinating it should be to work in the Hollywood of the 30s. Apart from this kind of stories, she describes her way of dressing as predominantly comfortable and that the clothes always accompanied her movements perfectly . Simple but of quality. That's why she opted for the pants, shirts and sweaters that she put so much into fashion. Creating an image of a strong woman, free and with character. In addition, she who did not feel any kind of physical complex, knew that it did not represent the beauty of that moment, in fact she calls herself ugly but does not do it from grief but from the carelessness of knowing herself worth in other aspects much more important and less ephemeral.

Feliz semana.

I would like to conclude with a reflection that I found incredibly smart about director George Cukor: "It has always been indomitable and fun, two wonderful qualities in a woman" and I can not agree more, are the fascinating, strong, brave personalities those that make us stand out and be who we want to be ... we must abandon the clichés of fashion or advertising that do not stop indoctrinating us about how we should be in their ideal world ... but I'm sorry gentlemen and the world is not ideal Neither do we. That is why these proposals are so valuable that we are launching the small craftsmen / as shaping products designed and made without the pressures of what is carried or not, who carries it and when. For me, freedom is everything and I know that for many of you, too, that expressing your character and personality through clothing is nothing more than a game, an entertainment as it was for Katharine Hepburn to create her characters, because we are not always the same woman with the same image we need clothes that suits our multiple facets and needs. We are unique and imperfect and that is fascinating. To this post of return are accompanied by images of the Saku Artisan Model shirt, you will find it available in my Etsy store, you have the links above in the Blog. As you can see meets some of the requirements of the intrepid woman we raised throughout this time: comfort thanks to its slackness, freshness and fun point for the combination of color ... in short it may be your ideal companion. A big hug. Happy week.
